Pilates Training - brand new dates announced for 2026!
The Classical Pilates Academy, part of the Birmingham Pilates Studios, is excited to open bookings for highly sought-after courses that will take your Pilates teaching career to the next level.
Pilates Mat Level 3 Diploma
If you have no previous Pilates qualifications – and many of our students start exactly the same way – the Pilates Mat Level 3 Diploma is the perfect starting point. It’s a fully accredited qualification (Active IQ & CIMSPA endorsed), so once you’re qualified you’ll be able to teach straight away in gyms, studios, leisure centres, and community venues, and you’ll be eligible for insurance.
We cover:
- History of Pilates
- Matwork exercises
- Functional anatomy & physiology
- Class planning and safe teaching techniques
- How to cue effectively and build confidence in front of a group
- January 13th /14th 10am – 4.30pm (warm up phase)
- February 3rd/4th 10am-4.30pm (main Phase)
- March 3rd /4th 10am – 4.30pm (closing Phase)
- April 14th/15th – 10am – 4:30pm (assessments)
Level 3 Award in Supporting Pre and Post Natal Clients
We also have a Level 3 Award in Supporting Pre & Post-Natal Clients starting January 2026. The 2-day course is It’s a fully accredited qualification (Active IQ & CIMSPA endorsed).
In-person seminars will be held on Tuesday 7th & Wednesday 8th January 2025 (2 full days, in-person). This course is perfect for fitness and Pilates professions who want to confidently and safely support women during pregnancy and after birth.

Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral
Our Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral is supported by eLearning self study and is also a fully accredited qualification (Active IQ & CIMSPA endorsed). It is perfect for Pilates and fitness professionals who want to work with clients living with common medical conditions (e.g. hypertension, diabetes, asthma, arthritis, lower back pain and more). Open doors to GP referral schemes and specialist programming.

Classical Pilates Comprehensive Teacher Training
For those who would like to progress their Pilates training, our next Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training programme designed and directed by Kirk James Smith, a second-generation Pilates teacher with over 25 years of industry experience, starts 30th January 2026.
Kirk James Smith is one of the top second generation teachers in the World and was taught by Romana Kryzanowska, a protégé of Joseph Pilates, as well as first-generation teachers Jay Grimes and Mary Bowen. The Comprehensive Teacher Training Programme, taught by Sarah Janes, delivers a rigorous and student centred course that equips students with all the necessary knowledge and practical skills to become a certified Classical Pilates teacher.
Teacher Trainer, Sarah Janes, has a wealth of experience in teaching Pilates. All the course content is delivered at our sister studio, VIPilates Classical Studio in Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield. This all-encompassing course covers Pilates principles, anatomy, teaching methodology, and practical training on Pilates equipment and exercises. It is designed for individuals who are passionate about Pilates and committed to becoming certified Pilates teachers.
To enrol in this Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training programme, you must competently execute the Intermediate Mat routine as defined in the syllabus.
Upon enrolment, you will also become an associate member of The Birmingham Pilates Studios and its sister studio, VIPilates Classical Studio. This membership provides you with unlimited access to self-practice sessions in a practical learning environment. You will have the opportunity to train on the finest Classical Gratz apparatus, allowing you to master the practical aspects of the course to become a highly skilled and competent instructor.

- May 8, 9 & 10 – Intermediate System 2
- August 7, 8 & 9 – Advanced
- September 25, 26 & 27 – Advanced
This is a 14-month programme, running over 4 weekends – includes contact time/seminars and assessment.
